We have had some incredible fishing charters recently targeting redfish. We are seeing huge schools of redfish in Pine Island Sound, as well as around Sanibel Island and Captiva Island. The incoming tide has been the most productive. We have opportunities to catch fish on live bait, fly and artificial. I am seeing more on the flats now than I ever have. On slower parts of the tide we can still catch plenty of other species such as seatrout, jacks, mackerel and pompano.
Redfish, Fly Fishing and Offshore Fishing
This is my favorite time of the year to fish. While redfish remain the primary inshore targets, we have a good number of options within a mile offshore as well. We should start to see bonita and mackerel showing up off the beaches which make great targets for fly anglers. We have some tarpon around and they should stay through October.
